During the season of advent we have two special services. The first service is our Blue Christmas service. The Blue Christmas service reminds us that the Christmas holidays can be a very depressing time. Nights are at their longest duration. The pain of the death of lost loved ones is often most acute. Not to mention all the stress of the holiday season. The service typically takes place on a Wednesday night at 7:30 PM in the middle of December. Lent is a very busy season for our church. We start the season of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service on Ash Wednesday. The service is usually held at 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM in our chapel. Cambridge Welcoming often joins us in worship for this important service. On Palm Sunday we have a special processional with many of the other churches in the area. The processional starts around 9:00 AM in Powderhouse Park (a few blocks away from College Ave near Tufts). The processional is led by a donkey while we sing praise songs and wave palms. The service ends at Davis Square with a prayer service. At 10:45 AM we have a special Palm/Passion Sunday worship service in our sanctuary. Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter. We celebrate the Eucharist as we remember the events in Jesus life between Palm Sunday and Good Friday. In particular, Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, the Last Supper, his arrest in the Garden, and part of his trial with the authorities of his time. The service starts in Room 24 and ends in the Sanctuary. Cambridge Welcoming also participates in this service. The day after Maundy Thursday College Avenue remembers Jesus crucifixion with a Good Friday service. Cambridge Welcoming also participates in the service. In addition to our normal 10:45 AM worship service, we also celebrate the resurrection of Jesus the Christ with a sunrise service at Powderhouse park, usually around 6:00 AM. Our 10:45 AM service features special choral music.
